This time he wants a Thanksgiving turkey, as in regime change in Turkey. John Bolton, America\u2019s favorite neocon, has decided Turkey doesn\u2019t have enough democracy, so he has put together a little project to help Erdo\u011fan see the errors of his ways and play nice with NATO. There is the Middle East to subdue, more mercenaries to train and well, NATO has to be united and strong to be able to go up against China and Russia. Oh, and let\u2019s not forget Iran. Turkey must be on board, like <em>fully<\/em> on board. But The Sultan has other plans, it seems. To help things along, then, we have the latest in regime change projects: The Turkish Democracy Project. We can be certain the Turks will be most appreciative for \u2018Big Mo\u2019 Bolton\u2019s help.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Bolton recently sent out a tweet <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AmbJohnBolton\/status\/1407771944473272320\">hailing his new project<\/a><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">It&#8217;s time to sound the alarm on #Turkey. Under an authoritarian leader, a once-reliable NATO ally is turning its back on democracy and embracing #Russia. I&#8217;m pleased to join the @turkish_project advisory council to shine a light on the darkening situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Let\u2019s have a quick look at <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/turkishdemocracy.com\/about-us\/\">the TDM (Turkish Democracy Project) staff<\/a><\/span>. Its Executive Director, Madeleine Joelson, has a Master\u2019s in English literature and a BA in government. She\u2019ll be managing and planning all the programs. We wonder if she speaks Turkish. She is working on her PhD in English lit. She is currently on the faculty of English at Princeton University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">One of the founders is one <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/turkey\/opposition-ex-deputy-s-assets-seized-over-feto-links\/992362\">Aykan Erdemir, who has reputed ties to FETO<\/a><\/span>, the Fetullah Gulen group, who was said to be behind the 2016 coup attempt on Erdo\u011fan. Erdemir is currently on the run from the Sultan, having had all his assets seized after fleeing Turkey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">On the Board of Advisors for the TDM, we have the man Bolton himself, along with an ex-CIA deputy director, a member of the CFR, an Italian ex-Foreign Minister, Joe Lieberman, Jeb Bush and Iran hawk Mark D. Wallace as CEO, among other members. All of them are American except for the one Italian, and as far as I know, none of them cite any specialization in Turkish culture, affairs or policy. So far, so good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The American government has such a love of democracy that it has brought said democracy to any nation that opposes Washington\u2019s views and policies. But <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.everybodywiki.com\/List_of_authoritarian_regimes_supported_by_the_United_States\">it also shares that love with a number of autocratic regimes across the world<\/a><\/span>. In point of fact, the US has no problem with autocratic regimes so long as they toe the American policy line and moreover help to spread democracy worldwide. So, why does Turkey need more democracy? The charges laid against Erdo\u011fon by the West, from the TDP site are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">President Erdogan\u2019s Turkey has threatened its regional neighbors, supported extremist groups, deployed men and material in support of conflicts ranging from the Middle East to Europe, persecuted ethnic minorities, destroyed the free press, jailed and killed political opponents, eroded democratic institutions, and spread corruption throughout Turkey\u2019s institutions. At the same time, the Turkish economy has seen a severe economic downturn as a result of Erdogan\u2019s policies. As rule of law is degraded and corruption runs rampant, Erdogan and his oligarchs continue to amass wealth and power. In 2020, Freedom House officially declared Turkey \u201cnot free.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The statement is basically true. There is no denying Turkey has taken a decidedly autocratic turn under Erdo\u011fon, even though the statement made by the TDP is a bit of pot and kettle double \u2013speak.Here is <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/responsiblestatecraft.org\/2021\/06\/24\/neocons-take-aim-at-turkey\/\">a basic roundup of the situation<\/a><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Turkey had long served as the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and a key outpost for U.S. operations in the Middle East. The Turkish military purchased $16.6 billion in American weapons from the end of the Cold War to 2021, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/armstrade.sipri.org\/armstrade\/page\/values.php\">arms trade database<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">But the Erdo\u011fan government has run afoul of Washington in recent years. It has picked fi<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">ghts with European allies over\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2021\/01\/19\/turkey-greece-what-erdogan-wants-eastern-mediterranean-sovereignty-natural-gas\/\">energy resources<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">, bought <span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.themoscowtimes.com\/2021\/06\/02\/turkey-to-send-home-russian-s-400-missile-system-experts-in-signal-to-us-reports-a74078\">Russian missiles<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">taken a hardline\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt; color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/turkeys-erdogan-hits-out-at-israel-as-mideast-conflict-grows\/a-57573760\">stance against Israel<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">, and allowed U.S. rivals to evade\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.miamiherald.com\/opinion\/op-ed\/article224594180.html\">economic sanctions<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">The most dramatic confrontation took place in October 2019. While the Trump administration had\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2021\/01\/10\/why-is-america-still-in-syria\/\">hoped to enlist<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Turkey as a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalinterest.org\/blog\/middle-east-watch\/inside-iran-hawks-hijacking-trumps-syria-withdrawal-plan-90041\">partner<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in the Syrian civil war, Turkey instead attacked U.S.-backed Kurdish forces, creating a\u00a0<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.refugeesinternational.org\/reports\/2019\/11\/12\/displacement-and-despair-the-turkish-invasion-of-northeast-syria\">humanitarian crisis<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and <strong>embarrassing the United States<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Emphasis added. The Washington establishment can overlook a lot of things so long as a nation stands shoulder to shoulder with them in a conflict, but to actually <em>embarrass<\/em> them? \u2013 well, that\u2019s a red line. The Turkish attack against the Kurds appears to have been the final straw. Now, Erdo\u011fan either has to go or he has to be shown the error of his ways. And \u2018Stash Man is just the one to bring the Sultan to heel, or so he thinks. And that brings us to Turkey\u2019s and Erdo\u011fan\u2019s charts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">In <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/2019\/07\/23\/what-next-for-turkey\/\">a blog on this site from two years ago<\/a><\/span>, we looked forward for Turkey as to transits and directions and saw that there would be no significant changes to Turkey\u2019s government, aside from elections, until at least 2025. That basically rules out regime change for Turkey. That alone tells us that Bolton\u2019s pet project is not likely to go very far. In fact, if he tries to push it forward, it actually may backfire and rally the Turks around the Sultan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">All that being said, in March of next year, an interesting set of astrological indicators presents itself. The chart is below (<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/malvinartley.com\/PDF Files\/charts\/turkey_march_2022.png\">bigger<\/a><\/span>):<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1856 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022-1024x569.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022-1024x569.png 1024w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022-768x427.png 768w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022-1536x853.png 1536w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/turkey_march_2022.png 1786w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">We find transiting Saturn opposite Turkey\u2019s Neptune, the latter ruling the 10<sup>th<\/sup> house (sitting government) and squaring the natal Jupiter and Venus conjunction. In addition, directed Saturn is to Turkey\u2019s Ceres \u2013 a difficult decision to be made and a turning point in national destiny \u2013 activated by a Mars transit on 12 Mar 2022. However, transiting Jupiter is on the Turkish MC in the days preceding and exact on the 12<sup>th<\/sup>. That is not a setup for regime change, but instead a recognition of realities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2023_Turkish_general_election\">Elections in Turkey will not be held until 18 Jun 2023<\/a><\/span>. So, the transits and directions for Turkey show something other than an election result. We note in that chart the Saturn transit is taking place in the nation\u2019s 9<sup>th<\/sup> house, indicating a change in foreign relations or perhaps constitutional matters. However, the direction of Saturn is in the 8<sup>th<\/sup> house, which involves foreign banking. There has been quite a lot of speculation as to which way Erdo\u011fan will turn, as in to the East or staying with the West. If he turns East then that will probably mean turning away from the SWIFT system to a degree.\u00a0 Big Mo\u2019 and Uncle Joe will definitely be unhappy then. What is happening with Erdo\u011fan\u2019s chart at that time?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Erdo\u011fan\u2019s chart with transits and directions for 12 Mar 2022 is below (<span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"http:\/\/malvinartley.com\/PDF Files\/charts\/erdogan_march_2022.png\">bigger<\/a><\/span>):<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1857 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022-1024x568.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"525\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022-1024x568.png 1024w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022-1536x852.png 1536w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/erdogan_march_2022.png 1781w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Erdo\u011fan, for all his faults, is a survivor politically. That shows in his transits and directions for next year. That said, it is questionable which would be better regarding the TDP &#8212; to leave Erdogan in place or to topple him and replace him with a NATO yes-man. The natal Vertex\/Pluto conjunction, which gives him his great insight politically, is activated by a Jupiter transit. In turn his directed vertex is aspected to his natal Jupiter. He has decisions to make, for certain, shown by the transit of Uranus opposite his Saturn. But transiting Jupiter is also sextile his Ascendant and making a square to his natal Saturn. His confidence will be riding high, perhaps a little too high, though with the Saturn\/MC midpoint to his Ascendant reality is being forced upon him. One of the indications for that direction is , \u201csuffering from others, being placed in unfortunate circumstances\u201d. That would be the US administration at the moment and Bolton\u2019s little regime change club. He will survive it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The following year at the election he will have the directed Saturn\/MC midpoint to his Uranus: \u201cEmotional excitability, <strong>the desire to attain one&#8217;s objectives at all costs<\/strong>. <strong>Making the greatest efforts<\/strong>. &#8211; A sudden emotional or occupational crisis, an emotional shock, mourning and bereavement.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/politics\/diplomacy\/turkish-soldiers-will-not-be-involved-in-combat-mission-in-afghanistan\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The US wants the Sultan to stay in Afghanistan<\/span><\/a> to watch over the airport in Kabul, keeping a NATO force there. Erdo\u011fan is all for it, \u2018provided conditions are met\u2019. If the Taliban and the other neighboring states have any say in the matter \u2013 and they do \u2013 that project is D.O.A. It would be logistically impossible to maintain with the US gone from Afghanistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Then, there is the worsening situation in Syria, where there is growing opposition to occupation and increasing attacks against foreign troops. Erdo\u011fan has his plate full and serious concerns to address. With elections in a couple of years he will be turning his eye to campaigning. We will see if the Mars transit across Turkey\u2019s IC brings any protests with it. If not, the Bolton and Co. have not really started their work yet. A guess would be they are building funding there in Turkey and ramping up the rhetoric on <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rferl.org\/\">RFE\/RL<\/a><\/span> and attempting to do so via social media. But Turkey has been <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mei.edu\/publications\/turkey-pushing-out-western-ngos\">pushing out the Western NGOs<\/a><\/span> since March of 2017, making it harder for the other NATO powers to fund opposition groups.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">With the transits and directions indicated it would come as no surprise at all if Turkey were to begin alternative payment methods, given the directions to the financial and foreign axes of Turkey\u2019s chart (8<sup>th<\/sup> and 9<sup>th<\/sup> houses). And with directed Uranus having been on the Sultan\u2019s IC this year, he has had it in his mind, for certain. Security interests have been front and center. Perhaps another batch of the Russian S-400 air defences are in the works.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">These next two years will be critical for Turkey. Changes, and big ones, are \u2018in the stars\u2019 and for anyone who studies Turkey. What it is not looking good for, though, is the Turkish Democracy Project.
