Their balloon has gone missing. The fear is it was shot down by the USAF with a heat-seeking missile. Why the Air Force would have used a heat-seeking missile on a $12 hobby balloon is a mystery, because the balloon had no on-board propulsion or other technology that would emit heat. There must have been some really nefarious tech on-board that balloon. To their credit, NIBBB is not as yet pointing fingers at the USAF, but the disappearance comes on the heels of other balloons similarly shot down, if indeed their balloon was popped by the USAF. This is a developing story. We\u2019re licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allowing us to communicate to other Hams throughout the World. Pico meaning small, we send a small transmitter, with GPS tracking and antenna on a balloon filled with Hydrogen, rising to 47,000 feet, and travelling with the speed of the Jetstream. As we travel, our GPS is able to locate our current location, and other information is gathered depending on what chips we have on our transmitter while using other programs to gather other inflight information\u2026Other Hams can receive our signal and are reported on a computer using WSPR (Weak Signal Propagation Reporting) from anywhere through the internet. Our total package of transmitter, antenna, and balloon weigh less than an ounce, that is really small.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aviationweek.com\/defense-space\/aircraft-propulsion\/hobby-clubs-missing-balloon-feared-shot-down-usaf\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The NIBBB made the papers<\/span><\/a> with their story. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/illinois-hobby-club-fears-balloon-shot-down-usaf-report\">The FBI has apparently spoken to them<\/a><\/span> about their activities. There are some pretty shady-looking characters in the photo above. It\u2019s the normal-looking ones you have to watch out for, you know? (sarcasm) In seriousness, ham radio was an interest of mine in my teenage years along with my interest in electronics and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/2023\/02\/16\/the-2023-east-palestine-train-derailment\/\">trains, the latter recently described<\/a><\/span>. But the NIBBB is not the real story here, is it? (Sorry guys, but keep up the great work! You\u2019ve made the Big Time! Respect.). No, for the real story we start with an old favorite of mine from those earlier years:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gp5JCrSXkJY\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">So, what is going down in America, then? From the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of February this year the US has sent F22 Raptors and F16s up to shoot down 4 \u2018UFOs\u2019 over American and Canadian territory (see pic below). The first object was a Chinese balloon, as large as the length of three school buses. It was a big boy! That had been tracked since it was launched on Hainan Island (off the coast of China), until it was finally shot down off the South Carolina coast. The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/politics-montana-north-carolina-302134762e8aeae53314ebd9fdb327e4\">folks at Myrtle Beach had a ringside seat<\/a><\/span> for the fireworks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The first balloon is what started the Great American Balloon Panic of 2023. The media does love panic. It\u2019s great for ratings. That balloon also coincided with another train of events that happened on the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>. We\u2019ll have more on that in a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"636\" height=\"382\" class=\"wp-image-2381\" src=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/c-users-tian_-pictures-site-pictures-ufos_shot_do-1.jpeg\" alt=\"C:\\Users\\tian_\\Pictures\\Site Pictures\\ufos_shot_down.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/c-users-tian_-pictures-site-pictures-ufos_shot_do-1.jpeg 636w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/c-users-tian_-pictures-site-pictures-ufos_shot_do-1-300x180.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">So, let\u2019s set the facts out about this Chinese balloon: It was launched from China (of course), and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moonofalabama.org\/2023\/02\/blinkens-travel-canceling-adds-to-china-hate.html\">there was an item that caught the eyes of Americans<\/a><\/span> that was hanging under the balloon \u2013 the \u2018elephant in the sky\u2019, so-to-speak:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThese balloons have cross like arms hanging below them with the two horizontal arms carrying solar panels. There are three gondolas at the ends of the horizontal and vertical structure. The gondolas could carry instruments, motors or both.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Solar panels, instruments and motors, eh? Gondolas \u2013 maybe the Italians were involved! Marco Polo went to China, right? Sounds like a spy balloon, alright. This was a powered balloon! Who knows what sort of tech it had on it? Knowing the Chinese (which we don\u2019t, really) there were probably all sorts of high-tech spying apparati hanging under that thing, transmitting all that data back to the CCP (as Americans do like to call the CPC). That\u2019s pretty worrisome stuff. It\u2019s best just to let it drift all the way across the US before we shoot it down, right, especially seeing it is being used to spy on us? And just what were the Chinese looking at? That\u2019s right \u2013 our missile silos and secret military installations across the northern US.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Here was the flight path pre-programmed by the CCP. I guess they wanted to see Myrtle Beach:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"950\" height=\"1216\" class=\"wp-image-2382\" src=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/the-alleged-chinese-spy-balloon-has-sparked-numero-1.jpeg\" alt=\"The alleged Chinese spy balloon has sparked numerous reports of other balloon sightings around the world. It\u2019s called the jet stream. This balloon was caught by the jet stream over the Aleutian Islands. The wind tends to decide where balloons drift, in case one didn\u2019t know. Apparently our media pundits don\u2019t. But there was an anomaly in the jet stream at the time this balloon started its journey across the US. If one looks at <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov\/noaa\/noaa_archive.php?month=02&amp;day=03&amp;year=2023&amp;cycle=00&amp;lang=english&amp;format=gif\">a weather map with the weather fronts for the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> of February<\/a><\/span> there is a long front that stretches down from Canada, dips deep into the US, forced there by the jet stream, and it has a path that looks suspiciously like the path of the Chinese balloon. Oops!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Perhaps the Chinese really <em>can<\/em> control the weather! Maybe they have their own version of the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/haarp.gi.alaska.edu\/\">HAARP<\/a><\/span>. OK, trolling again, but the point is, this balloon was a <em>weather<\/em> balloon, believe it or else. It did transmit some <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/world-weather.info\/forecast\/usa\/myrtle_beach\/04-february\/\">valuable data to the Chinese<\/a><\/span>, though: It was sunny at Myrtle Beach on the 4<sup>th<\/sup>, relative humidity at 52%, 41\u00b0 F, easterly winds at 11.9 mph, with atmospheric pressure at 30.6 inHg, altogether quite a nice winter\u2019s day at the beach. Then, the transmission was abruptly lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">OK. We aren\u2019t having a go at the American people here, but instead at the media and the folks in DC who have stirred up all this nonsense. Most Americans have better sense than to believe this balloon was some sort of security risk, one would hope, though I have seen a few comments about this balloon by a few Americans who really should get out more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Here is what we are looking at regarding shooting down these balloons, too: It <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.europeans24.com\/2022\/11\/flight-cost-f-22-raptor-is-at-top-of.html\">costs $85,000\/hr to keep a F22 Raptor in the air<\/a><\/span> and that does not count maintenance costs before or after the fact. The balloons (or \u2018UFOs\u2019) shown on the incident map at the start here were shot down with <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2023\/02\/13\/sidewinder-missile-china-spy-balloon-ufo-raytheon\/\">$400,000 Raytheon \u2018Sidewinder\u2019 heat-seeking missiles<\/a><\/span>. For the Chinese balloon (the first target) the first such missile missed \u2013 balloons don\u2019t normally use jet propulsion or produce heat. So, to shoot down the Chinese balloon, the cost was upwards of $1 million. That was <em>after<\/em> it had traversed the US, across sensitive sites. Perhaps the USAF was just using these balloons as training exercises or for target practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">If Washington was really that concerned that balloon was spying on the US and transmitting data to the Chinese then they would have shot it down before it even entered US airspace. Do we not think NORAD knew what sort of data the balloon was transmitting? But no, a big song and dance had to be made of the event with a blazing finale off the coast of South Carolina, in full view of one of the biggest tourist cities on the East Coast. It was not exactly <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=3ZFVEuAD-JY\">a \u2018Maverick\u2019 moment<\/a><\/span> (for the fanboys), though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Very similar balloons were spotted <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BalloonSciDan\/status\/1479218147098038278\">over Japan<\/a> <a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stratoballoon\/status\/1479217120101769218\">and India<\/a><\/span> in the last few years. Neither Japan nor India shot those down. Now, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thenewarea51\/status\/1627476917405220864\">a new one has been spotted close to Honolulu, HI<\/a><\/span> (on the 19<sup>th<\/sup>) by multiple commercial airline pilots. But there is more.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see about the one close to Hawaii. But it gets even more interesting, and gets us closer to the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.picoballoon.org\/\">Around 2,000 pico balloons are sent up across the world <em>every day<\/em><\/a>.<\/span> That\u2019s a lot of UFOs. Those pico balloons go up into the stratosphere, with a flight time typically of about 4 hours, for checking atmospheric conditions. But it gets better. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/bmx\/kidscorner_weatherballoons\">In an average year, the United States alone sends up <em>75,000<\/em> balloons<\/a><\/span>, and these are just weather balloons. They typically rise to an altitude of around 20 miles (32 km) and have radiosondes attached. So, given all the preceding, what is really going on here? It is clear the balloons are not the real story. What gives?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">His Nibs \u2013 Joe Biden and his coterie \u2013 along with the media would have us believe the Chinese are spying on us and that it poses a grave security risk. Well, they are. All nations spy on each other. We spy on them, too. But balloons? There is a simple answer as to why this Chinese weather balloon was not a Trojan horse spy apparatus, and the answer can be spelled out in one word \u2013 satellites. The Chinese have hundreds of them in orbit\u2026overhead\u2026now\u2026watching us&#8230; Are we paranoid yet? Point is, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/264472\/number-of-satellites-in-orbit-by-operating-country\/#:~:text=Of%20the%204%2C852%20active%20artificial,China%2C%20accounting%20for%20only%20499.\">we have about 6 times more of them<\/a><\/span> doing the same thing to China, and Russia, and Iran, and everyone else. The US has blanket coverage of the world via satellite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Paranoia strikes deep in the heart of Washington, though, and they like to keep us on tenterhooks, too. It\u2019s good for business, you see, as in the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=MICIMATT\">MICIMATT<\/a><\/span> \u2013 the military-industrial-congressional-intelligence-media-academia-think-tank complex. The more fearful we are of attacks, the easier it is to gin up support for weapons, for \u2018intelligence\u2019, for media click bait, for academics to appear on TV and tell us their versions of reality (which they say we really must all accept, because they are \u2018experts\u2019) and for funding for Congressional races at election time. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/harpers.org\/archive\/1964\/11\/the-paranoid-style-in-american-politics\/\">Regarding Washington\u2019s paranoia<\/a><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIn the end, the real mystery, for one who reads the primary works of paranoid scholarship, is not how the United States has been brought to its present dangerous position but how it has managed to survive at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Very telling regarding the preceding pre-quote paragraph was what happened as soon as the balloon story burst on the scene: The Pentagon canceled <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/02\/04\/1154473950\/u-s-cancels-blinkens-visit-to-china-after-the-appearance-of-a-spy-balloon\">Blinken&#8217;s trip to China<\/a><\/span>, which was to discuss security matters with his counterparts in China, cancelled the day before he was supposed to leave. The administration probably knew it was a wasted effort anyway, but the cancellation made for good theatre. Somehow that cancellation was supposed to \u2018send a message\u2019 to the Chinese. It did. It showed the US claims about lowering tensions with China are not serious.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">From day-one the media was calling the balloon a \u2018spy balloon\u2019. The Republicans seized on it to stoke more fears of China and to attack the Biden administration. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/world\/united-states-canada\/article\/3209181\/republicans-criticise-joe-biden-over-his-handling-chinese-balloon-shot-down-us\">They attacked Biden for waiting to shoot it down<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/republicans-rip-biden-after-chinese-spy-balloon-shot-down-our-enemies-used-to-fear-us\">then they attacked him later for shooting it down<\/a><\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cSessions also blasted the Biden administration, saying they are &#8220;slow to recognize dangers against American sovereignty and even slower to defend our borders or the things which we pride ourselves most in, and that is the ability we have to protect ourselves with the world\u2019s greatest military.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">If we get the idea this first event was all for political theatre, we would probably be correct. The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.news.com.au\/technology\/online\/social\/china-is-trolling-the-us-over-its-spy-balloon-hysteria\/news-story\/1e3d14f41d55b670939c6967a058849a\">Chinese likewise trolled the Biden administration mercilessly<\/a><\/span>, but for different reasons \u2013 as in Washington\u2019s overreaction and political gamesmanship over the event \u2013 along with the shoot-down of their balloon, like the cartoon below. To the Chinese, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2023\/feb\/18\/us-reaction-to-balloon-absurd-and-hysterical-says-top-chinese-diplomat\">the American reaction was \u201cabsurd and hysterical\u201d<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"648\" class=\"wp-image-2384\" src=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/word-image-2375-4-1.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/word-image-2375-4-1.png 1080w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/word-image-2375-4-1-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/word-image-2375-4-1-1024x614.png 1024w, https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/word-image-2375-4-1-768x461.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Shooting down the Chinese balloon wasn\u2019t enough for Washington, though. Three more had to be shot down, or so they thought. This brings in another side to the event \u2013 distraction from domestic incidents. The following events were taking place the entire time of this balloon hysteria:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The East Palestine train derailment, linked previously above, an environmental disaster, still ongoing<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/seymourhersh.substack.com\/p\/how-america-took-out-the-nord-stream\">Sy Hersh\u2019s bombshell expose<\/a><\/span> on how the Biden administration blew up the Nord Stream pipelines. Dismissal by the mainstream media. Denial from the White House (What\u2019s the saying? \u2013 Never believe anything from the White House until you hear the official denial?)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/dustinmills48\/status\/1625934823121424392\">Epstein Island \u2018guest list\u2019 dropped<\/a><\/span> (a little embarrassing, that. Crickets from the media)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Washington\u2019s panic over the approaching Russian offensive in Ukraine and <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/17\/politics\/us-weapons-factories-ukraine-ammunition\/index.html\">NATO running dry on ammunition and weapons<\/a><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2023\/02\/20\/politics\/biden-ukraine-zelensky-visit-one-year-war-anniversary-intl-hnk\/index.html\">Biden appeared in Kiev<\/a><\/span> in the past days on a surprise visit to rally the troops, i.e. to barrack for more weapons. He also <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/world\/russia-central-asia\/article\/3210860\/joe-biden-surprise-visit-kyiv-ahead-ukraine-war-anniversary\">promised $500 million dollars<\/a><\/span> in aid to Ukraine while there is little help for East Palestine and similar sites. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.motherjones.com\/politics\/2023\/02\/east-palestine-donald-trump\/\">Only after Trump announced a trip there did the government finally act<\/a><\/span>. Coincidence? You decide.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">What we see with the balloon scare is three-fold: First, it is a play to domestic politics. The election in \u201924 is around the corner and the administration has to at least look tough on China, especially to Republican voters. It was a lost effort. Secondly, it was meant to stoke the anti-China sentiment in the US, which is not difficult to do. Thirdly, it was meant to manufacture consent and support for the defense and intelligence industries, which is has done:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2019\/aug\/02\/pentagon-balloons-surveillance-midwest\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The Pentagon has been testing similar balloons over the past few years<\/span><\/a> for surveillance across the US. (Did we shoot down one of our own such balloons?) In other words, we are spying on our own territory with balloons.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-house-votes-unanimously-condemn-brazen-chinese-spy-balloon-2023-02-09\/\">House of Representatives voted 419-0 to condemn the \u2018 brazen spy balloon\u2019<\/a><\/span>. Apparently the political winds in the House are producing a headwind against China. The <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-house-votes-unanimously-condemn-brazen-chinese-spy-balloon-2023-02-09\/\">top Chinese legislature then condemned the House condemnation<\/a><\/span>. This in turn led to a vote to establish the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_House_Select_Committee_on_Strategic_Competition_between_the_United_States_and_the_Chinese_Communist_Party\">Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party<\/a><\/span> focused on economic, technological, and security issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">One <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/02\/17\/us\/politics\/china-us-balloons-ufo.html\">member of Congress is using the episode to fund her re-election<\/a><\/span>:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cIt is essential that we provide the military and intelligence community with the necessary resources to detect and monitor objects in near space,\u201d said Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a New York Democrat on the Armed Services Committee.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">This is how bipartisanship works, you see? It isn\u2019t just Republicans who are anti-China.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">This last point is probably the biggest reason there is such hyperbole about the balloons \u2013 defense spending and the looming debt ceiling debate. These balloons are being put forward as a reason to spend more on <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2023\/02\/15\/lawmakers-spy-balloon-inflate-defense-spending-00083013\">protecting our skies against weather balloons<\/a><\/span>, especially Chinese weather balloons. When it comes to discretionary spending it makes more sense to cut Social Security and Medicare than the defense budget (That\u2019s sarcasm, too).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Why has the US gone bonkers over a few balloons? The militant rhetoric and pot-stirring is shown by a Mars transit across the US Descendant (7<sup>th<\/sup> house of litigation and open enemies), preceded by the Mars transit over the US Uranus (accidents, disasters, fires, etc.). Of note here als is Mars has just completed the Mars return for the US and is out-of-bouds, heightening and making more unpredictable its effects. There have been many accidents and large fires in the US since the start of February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">But then the real deal pops up: A direction of Mars to the US Moon, the pair being transited by Saturn, triggering the direction. Transits of Saturn across the Moon in chart are some of the hardest transits to endure. The transit tends to give a dark and foreboding mood, the feeling the world is against one, all sentiments are challenged and the world appears as it is instead of how one would wish it to be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">The Mars direction points to quarrels <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mid.ru\/ru\/foreign_policy\/news\/1855127\/\">heightened tensions<\/a><\/span> (translate from Russian). Basically, the administration knows it is between a rock and a hard place regarding the conflict in Ukraine, for instance, and no plans by the neocons there seem to be working out. In fact, any attempts to push their plans through produce quite the opposite effects and tend to <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/strategic-culture.org\/news\/2023\/02\/20\/an-unexpected-insight-for-elite-us-may-be-biggest-loser-in-war-russia\/\">boomerang on the perpetrator<\/a><\/span>. The Moon also represents the populace in a national chart and we see the need for paying attention to domestic issues instead of adventures overseas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">All this posturing against China is only going to backfire. It is a fool\u2019s errand to be poking the eye of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscc.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2019-11\/Chapter%203%20Section%203%20-%20Growing%20U.S.%20Reliance%20on%20China%E2%80%99s%20Biotech%20and%20Pharmaceutical%20Products.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">the one nation that supplies 80% of the base compounds going into our generic drugs<\/span><\/a>, that <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-trade-china-rareearth-explainer-idUSKCN1TS3AQ\">has the lion\u2019s share of facilities for processing rare earth elements<\/a><\/span> (needed sorely in the defense, technological and aviation fields) and which produces the largest share of the world\u2019s affordable consumer electronics, like iPhones for instance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">In their efforts to keep the hegemony of the US and the revolving door between Congress and the defense industries rotating, our lawmakers are cutting the cord that helps to keep the American economy buoyant. The whole episode has just ballooned out of control, much to the embarrassment of the United States. Finally, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/eu.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2023\/02\/16\/biden-speech-chinese-spy-balloon-flying-objects-shot-down\/11273378002\/\">Joe Biden offered a sort of weak explanation that ended the affair<\/a><\/span>, saying they didn\u2019t really know what the other three balloons were. They were probably balloons tied to private companies or research institutions (like NIBBB and the National Weather Service).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Do tell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Coming back to the lead paragraphs here, to the guys in NIBBB, I hope you eventually find out what happened to your balloon. One good thing to come out of this, at least for me, was a renewed desire to dust off my old radio equipment and at least listen to what is going on in your part of the world. And for the NIBBB, keep up the fine work. Hopefully there will be some sponsors to come out of this for you. And to our fearless leaders in Washington, I hear pigs fly, too. Take care of things at home instead.
