The Aries equinox also marks the start of the spiritual New Year for the West. This year the Aries equinox has also marked a real turning point in world affairs. Many scores will be settled this quarter, with a new sense of direction for the world at large opening out before us. For more, read on\u2026<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">The ingress took place at 21:24 UT on the 20<sup>th<\/sup> of March. This also shows a turning point or crossroads in world affairs. Added to that is the semisquare of the Sun to Uranus, completing a \u2018hard opposition\u2019 to the base of the t-square, auguring many surprising and unexpected events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">The midpoints in the chart are no less indicative of the volatility of the quarter, especially with those of Uranus and Pluto. We have the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Ura=Sat\/Plu: \u201cA person unafraid of danger, <strong>the ability to make sudden decisions in the most difficult situations<\/strong>. &#8211; <strong>Sudden acts of violence<\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Ura=Mer\/Mars: \u201cTo act with lightning speed, to make <strong>a decision during a state of emotional upset, the loss of self-control<\/strong> (frenzy, delirium or violent insanity). &#8211; <strong>An exciting surprise<\/strong>, a decision made in haste, action without deliberation. \u2013 <strong>The danger of catastrophes<\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Plu=Mars\/Sat: \u201cBrutality, <strong>the rage or fury of destruction<\/strong>. &#8211; The <strong>intervening of Higher Power<\/strong>, bodily injury or harm (murder, <strong>the death of a great many people<\/strong>).\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Plu=Jup\/Ura: \u201cAn unusual striving for knowledge and understanding, a strong awareness of purpose or of objective in life, a far-seeing creative activity. &#8211; <strong>A sudden change in financial circumstances<\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">With all this said, what do we know which is right in front of us? The US banking system is on the verge of collapse (Plu=Jup\/Ura), or at the very least \u2018a major readjustment\u2019. That started with the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/2023\/03\/14\/the-silicon-valley-bank-collapse-the-beginning-of-the-end\/\">collapse of the SVB<\/a><\/span> on the 10<sup>th<\/sup> of March. Since then other major US banks are teetering on the edge. Europe is not immune either, as we saw with Credit Suisse in Switzerland. Credit Suisse has taken a beating in recent years and the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nakedcapitalism.com\/2023\/03\/worlds-most-troubled-systemic-lender-credit-suisse-enters-whole-new-world-of-pain-as-svb-fallout-spreads.html\">SVB collapse nudged Credit Suisse<\/a><\/span> into precarious territory. Asian investors are pulling large sums out of Swiss banks because they no longer see those banks as safe havens for their money. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/03\/19\/ubs-agrees-to-buy-credit-suisse-as-regulators-look-to-shore-up-global-banking-system.html\">UBS has since agreed to buy out Credit Suisse<\/a><\/span>, somewhat assuaging investors\u2019 fears. For their part, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/03\/12\/investing\/stocks-week-ahead\/index.html\">US banks are sitting on $620 billion in unrealized losses<\/a><\/span>. What could possibly go wrong?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Turning to Ukraine, the US <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/europe\/live-news\/russia-ukraine-war-news-03-22-23\/h_c11fb2734a987c326f2c5265de6e21ef\">State Department is saying the next few weeks will be critical for Ukraine<\/a><\/span>. Kiev has hyped up a spring offensive (as in this quarter), especially around the heavily contested city of Bakhmut\/Artyomovsk. How they propose to launch such an offensive is an open question, considering the losses they have been suffering there. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YwIc4cPWdEs\">More sober assessments<\/a><\/span> of the possibility of any Ukrainian victory in such a scenario are very slim, and instead point toward a rout of the Ukrainians (Plu=Mars\/Sat).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">To Europe, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/france-retirement-macron-protests-government-noconfidence-vote-a3dddbcb812a452d567c5350a803a3ab\">France has erupted in rioting<\/a><\/span> after <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/truthout.org\/articles\/mass-strikes-and-protests-sweep-france-after-attack-on-pension-system\/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8e-gBhD0ARIsAJiDsaXY7lYY-7nxkRcysqWpbbZ_2tyfOUmnz1PGnju7ptHysQTC-3TUdqEaAoQWEALw_wcB\">Le Petit Roi (Macron) tried to ram through a law raising the retirement age<\/a><\/span> without parliamentary debate or approval. Apparently Macron does fancy himself to be \u2018the little king\u2019. There are many in France who would prefer he met the fate of <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louis_XVI#Imprisonment,_execution_and_burial_(1792%E2%80%931793)\">Louis XVI<\/a><\/span>. So far <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/france\/20230321-protests-appeals-referendum-what-s-next-for-france-s-pension-reform\">the French government has survived two no-confidence votes<\/a><\/span>, which has only further enraged the protestors. The protests may eventually force a popular referendum on the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">There are <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2023\/feb\/02\/uk-strike-days-calendar-public-service-when-planned-february-march\">large rolling strikes in the UK<\/a><\/span>, with strike actions planned through April. There are also <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.schengenvisainfo.com\/news\/strikes-to-take-place-all-over-europe-in-upcoming-weeks-heres-what-travellers-should-expect\/\">strikes in Spain, Germany and other EU states<\/a><\/span> over wages and benefits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">We can expect accidents resulting in large fires, too, as was recently witnessed in a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2023\/03\/22\/texas-chemical-plant-explosion-fire\/3021679519702\/\">massive explosion at a chemical plant in Pasadena, Texas<\/a><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/article-view\/22772\">Lebanon has been launched into turmoil<\/a><\/span> because of behind the scenes wrangling between the US and Saudi Arabia. The Saudis and the US are Lebanon\u2019s biggest donors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">But the biggest news this quarter will be the fallout from the recent meeting in Moscow between Putin and Xi, which struck <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/sonar21.com\/you-have-witnessed-history-today-in-moscow-and-it-is-consequential\/\">the death blow to Western hegemony<\/a><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/article-view\/22818\/in-moscow-xi-and-putin-bury-pax-americana\">Pax Americana has been buried<\/a><\/span>. It will take a few years, probably, for the Western powers to fully realize it, but from here on the influence of the Western powers will steadily decrease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">Looking at what is in front of us, from the preceding points, we can also gauge what is trending for this quarter from looking at what eventuated in the Capricorn quarter. What was forecast was a large winter offensive by the Russians, which never eventuated. The Russians do like to keep people guessing. It was largely American analysts who had forecast such an offensive, but the Russians instead saw fit to sit in place and grind down the Ukrainian military in places like Bakhmut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">The rising tensions in Europe against the US are there, but still have yet to explode. Once the truth comes out more fully about events like <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/seymourhersh.substack.com\/p\/the-cover-up\">the Nord Stream cover-up<\/a><\/span> and a <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moonofalabama.org\/2023\/03\/new-bakhmut-report-high-casualties-low-morale-russian-tactics.html\">rout of the Ukrainians at Bakhmut<\/a><\/span>, we are likely to see tensions rise sharply in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">The financial instability that was forecast has eventuated (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nakedcapitalism.com\/2023\/03\/michael-hudson-talks-to-ben-norton-about-svb-and-bank-failures.html\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">the US banking crisis) and is set to get worse<\/span>.<\/a> The ongoing slow-motion collapse of the \u2018Ukraine is winning\u2019 narrative began last quarter. The \u2018sudden and large change\u2019 forecast for last quarter was there, but it was understated in the West, whereas in the Global South it was big news \u2013 <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/saudi-arabia-iran-diplomatic-ties-2f80bb71a995910cb4b172e5dbee3526\">the normalization between the Saudis and Iranians<\/a><\/span> brokered by the Chinese. That breakthrough was a major indicator of the loss of American influence in West Asia. Then, of course, there was <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/malvinartley.com\/blog.malvinartley.com\/2023\/02\/28\/the-2023-turkiye-syria-earthquake\/\">the tragic earthquake that rocked T\u0171rkiye and Syria<\/a><\/span>, speaking of \u2018sudden and large change\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">What we can expect for this quarter are more and sudden developments in West Asia, perhaps or probably a decisive turning point in Ukraine which will lead to a more rapid end to the war there. Speaking of wars, there is hope the rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia will lead to an end of the war in Yemen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">The financial situation in the West will worsen. That probably goes without saying. The indicators are all there \u2013 <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/most-u-s-banks-are-technically-near-insolvency-and-hundreds-are-already-fully-insolvent-roubini-says-18b89f92\">insolvent banks<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.extensiv.com\/blog\/supply-chain-management\/challenges\">ongoing supply chain problems<\/a><\/span>, the <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.institute.global\/insights\/geopolitics-and-security\/three-years-brexit-casts-long-shadow-over-uk-economy\">ongoing Brexit pains in the UK<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #993300;\"><a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/biden-mccarthy-debt-ceiling-fight-47539399db37f44d47eff47386a28ddc\">debt ceiling debates in the US<\/a><\/span> (which means an even-greater mountain of debt for the US, thus a lack of confidence in the dollar internationally), the<span style=\"color: #993300;\"> <a style=\"color: #993300;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nakedcapitalism.com\/2023\/04\/warning-lights-flashing-red-for-italian-economy.html\">warnings for the Italian economy flashing red<\/a><\/span>, energy supply costs\u2026\u2026need we go on?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;\">We certainly are living in the most interesting of times, paraphrasing the old curse that is blamed on the Chinese for its origin. Blaming China for everything now is a favoured American pastime. As the real Chinese saying goes, it is &#8220;Better to be a dog in times of tranquility than a human in times of chaos.&#8221; But the world was born out of chaos, was it not? And a new one is emerging. If you are in a secure place, get some popcorn and watch it emerge. Better yet, let\u2019s roll up our sleeves and help usher it in. Aries always rings in the new. This Aries quarter has all the hallmarks of being one of those moments in history that are the most memorable and life-changing.
