Close to noon on the 30th<\/sup> of July a severe earthquake measuring Mww<\/sub> 8.8 occurred off the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka peninsula. It produced a tsunami wave 5m high at the nearby Kuril Islands, with much lesser tsunamis reported across the northern Pacific coastline. Only one casualty has been reported thus far \u2013 remarkable for such a strong quake. It was one of the 6th<\/sup>-strongest quakes ever reported. For more, read on\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wikipedia page has the following summary<\/span><\/a> of the technical points on the quake itself:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe large submarine earthquake occurred on 29 July at 23:24:50 UTC with a moment magnitude of (Mww\u202f) 8.8, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Its epicenter was off the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, about 136 km (85 mi) east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, while the hypocenter was put at a shallow depth of 20.7 km (12.9 mi)\u2026A Mww\u202f7.0 foreshock struck on 17 August 2024, nearly 45 km (28 mi) northeast of the Mw\u202f8.8 mainshock. Another foreshock, measuring Mww\u202f7.4, struck on 20 July 2025, about 60 km (37 mi) to the southwest of the 29 July mainshock. A Mww\u202f6.9 aftershock struck at 00:09 UTC on 30 July. The USGS said the earthquake occurred as a result of shallow reverse faulting on the subduction zone interface.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been two other quakes of 8.8 magnitude<\/span><\/a>, one in Chile and one in Colombia\/Ecuador. The quakes that cause the greatest devastation and loss of human life are generally those that take place on land, causing structures to fall on people. It has been said that quakes do not kill people: buildings do. Tsunamis can do quite a bit of damage, too, for settlements that lie on low coastal plains. We note the Jupiter culmination line for the quake, which strikes a longitude directly through the epicentre of the quake and past the south island of New Zealand to the West. This shows the largeness of the quake. But the quake is also shown by the activation by Mars of two other eclipses in quick succession \u2013 18 Sep 2024 (partial lunar, with Mars and Pluto in contraparallel and Ceres far out-of-bounds); and the total lunar eclipse on the 14th<\/sup> of March this year (with Saturn conjunct the Sun and the Jupiter culmination line running through the epicentre of this quake).<\/span><\/p>\n

The 18 Sep 2024 quake had the Venus culmination line a little to the east of the epicentre. The Jupiter culmination line for the total lunar eclipse in March of this year was virtually in the same position as the chart of the quake, shown below:<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mars activation of the 25 Mar 2025 eclipse was the main indicator for this quake.<\/span><\/p>\n

There is another interesting factor at play here, one which will receive a more thorough explanation in the upcoming Leo letter: Uranus has just come within orb of its conjunction with the Pleiades cluster. And that cluster has just moved into Gemini by virtue of the precession of the equinoxes. Vivian Robson had the following to saw about that conjunction:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cActive mind, deformity from birth or through accident in childhood, many accidents and troubles, many unexpected losses often through fire or enemies, marriage partner proves false especially if female, troubles through women, occult interests, unfavorable for children, if any, and lack of harmony with them, heavy losses at end of life, violent death.\u201d[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Trouble through women\u2019 relates to the Pleiades being a.k.a. the \u2018Seven Sisters\u2019. It is a conjunction that foretells of great changes, and it has done so consistently since the time of America\u2019s founding. But this time that conjunction will have a different character, given it is taking place in Gemini. Perhaps this quake is a signal of changes to come.<\/span><\/p>\n

As of today, though, the Ring of Fire<\/a><\/span> has had many quakes from mag. 4.0 and higher, shown below according to the USGS<\/span><\/a> (bigger<\/span><\/a>):<\/span><\/p>\n

This could have been a very severe earthquake in terms of loss of property and life. But as it is we have been spared from a major calamity \u2013 for now. Californians are still waiting for \u2018The Big One\u2019 (No, we aren\u2019t talking about Trump) to hit the San Andreas Fault. We can avoid that one as long as possible, we hope.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other than that, I wonder how many surfies took advantage of the tsunami? It reminds me of an episode from Gilligan\u2019s Island<\/span><\/a>. Tell \u2018em about it, Professor. Seriously though, tsunamis are not a trifle. We remember what happened to Japan in 2011 and the reactors at Fukushima<\/a><\/span>. Thus far there does not appear to be any serious damage from this tsunami.<\/span><\/p>\n
