Close to noon on the 30th of July a severe earthquake measuring Mww 8.8 occurred off the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka peninsula. It produced a tsunami wave 5m high at the nearby Kuril Islands, with much lesser tsunamis reported across the northern Pacific coastline.
