A tale of two disasters – Nepal and Italy

On the morning of 26 August 2026 a magnitude 5.2 seismic event was recorded in the Langtang National Park in Nepal. Shortly thereafter there was a massive and catastrophic wall of water, mud and rock that wiped out many villages, bridges and power stations, resulting in the deaths of over 1000 people. The massive flood cut a swath through central Nepal and into India and the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China. It is been called one of those once-in-a-century events.
