A tale of two disasters – Nepal and Italy

On the morning of 26 August 2026 a magnitude 5.2 seismic event was recorded in the Langtang National Park in Nepal. Shortly thereafter there was a massive and catastrophic wall of water, mud and rock that wiped out many villages, bridges and power stations, resulting in the deaths of over 1000 people. The massive flood cut a swath through central Nepal and into India and the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China. It is been called one of those once-in-a-century events. The 21 Sep 2025 partial solar eclipse

On the 21st of September 2025 a partial solar eclipse will take place over the South Pacific. This is the last of three lunations in Virgo, making this also an astrological blue new moon. The eclipse also ushers in the Libra equinox. Kiwis should get a good view of the eclipse, with the maximum view at Invercargill, South Island. If you happen to be in Antarctica at the time the maximum eclipse will be visible at the Mario Zucchelli Station. This is a south node eclipse, with the major mundane effect being that of bringing hard realities to earth with a hard thump.
