Navalny: democracy in Russia in peril?

On February 16 at 2:17 PM at the Arctic Wolf penitentiary in Siberia, Alexie Navalny was pronounced dead. The cause of his death was said to be ‘sudden death syndrome’, whatever that is. Western leaders were quick to point the finger at Russia and Putin in particular, proclaiming “Democracy in Russia is dead!” The question is, who really benefits from his death? And how, really, did he die? Astrology can give us clues to the latter. As to the former, the answers should be fairly obvious for anyone who has followed Russia’s relations with the West. For more, read on… Continue reading “Navalny: democracy in Russia in peril?”

The US midterm elections 2022

You may have heard or read the saying, “If voting could change anything it would be made illegal!” The quote is from Robert S. Bordon from 1976, often misattributed to Mark Twain. Democrats were gnawing at their nails on election night, fearing a red tsunami or red wave. Republicans were expecting a rout of the Dems. What we saw instead was a ‘red ripple’ (good name for a cheap wine), much to the relief of Dems and the fury of Donald Trump. We’ll have a look at all that here and what to expect going forward. Why this Israeli election is important and why none of them matter

[There is an update to this post HERE.] Israelis went to the polls today yet again, after only a few months, to try to see if a government could be formed from amongst the warring political parties in Israel. Polling on the day puts the Kahol Lavan Party of Benny Gantz a half point ahead of Likud (Netanyahu), with those two parties far out in the lead. Five months ago, when Netanyahu had to form a coalition, he did so with far right parties. But then the Israeli Parliament dissolved itself and forced another election — this one. It is an important election in some respects, and then in another way, not. We’ll get to the why in both cases as we go along. Brief analysis of the EU Parliamentary elections

Europe went to the polls over the weekend to cast its votes for the European Parliament. In our preview of the elections, upsets were in the wind, and that is exactly what took place. But it was not in the way that many commentators expected – with a surge of the far-right that seeks to break up the EU. As expected, the populist/nationalists in the UK, Italy and Hungary did well. But the real upsets came from other nations. We’ll get to all that in a bit. Continue reading “Brief analysis of the EU Parliamentary elections”

The EU Parliamentary elections, an overview

Europe goes to the polls starting tomorrow, and continuing through the 26th, to elect a new EU Parliament. These elections are going to be closely watched. Change is in the air, and the European establishment is ill-at-ease. Europe has taken a turn toward conservative/reactionary parties in recent years. Fears of the return of fascism to Europe are being whipped up. The mainstream media calls the emerging parties ‘far-right’, hoping to marginalize them. It’s not working. People are fed up with ‘politics as usual’ in Europe. Big changes are coming to the EU. But, is the future for Europe as dystopic as the fear mongers are saying? “The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise – with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country”… Continue reading “Scorpio for 2018 and the coming elections”
