Italy’s historic vote

On the 25th of this month we went to the polling stations in Italy and cast our vote for the Prime Minister and Senate. Meloni was widely forecast to win the PM’s seat, which she did, landing her as the first female PM in Italian history. It was a great day for women in politics. And just who is Giorgia Meloni, for those who don’t follow Italian politics? Well, to hear the Western liberal press, she is the leader of a far-right, neo-fascist party, making her the most far-right prime minister since Mussolini. Fascism is returning to Italy! – or so the press would have us believe. What is the truth? We’ll start to unpack that a little here, along with a brief look at Meloni. The Libra solar ingress 2022

The Sun enters Libra on Friday, 23 September just after 01:00 UT, signalling the Libra equinox. It also signals the coming of winter in the northern hemisphere and what is shaping up to be a very ‘interesting’ period across the Western world. Federal elections will be held in Italy two days after, where a right-wing coalition government is slated to take power. It will be a sign of the times for the EU if so. And to make things even more interesting, on the day of the equinox this year, four Ukrainian oblasts will begin voting to secede from Ukraine and become part of the Russian Federation. Update on Ukraine 24 May 2022

What follows is an update on the Russian SMO (Special Military Operation) in Ukraine, now starting its fourth month. Like many readers, we all wonder how much longer it will continue. Perhaps astrology can offer some clues. As of this writing the Azov group has surrendered from their siege in the bowels of the Azovstal plant and the remaining Ukrainian troops in the Donbas republics are being pounded by the Russian and Donbas forces. The 30 April 2022 partial solar eclipse

On 30 April 2022 there will be a partial solar eclipse at the 11th degree of Taurus. It will be followed two weeks later by a total lunar eclipse at the full moon of Taurus, the Wesak moon. The latter will be a blood moon eclipse, as well as being a particularly powerful eclipse. The current eclipse will be covered here as the precursor to the Wesak moon. These two eclipses also fit into the larger picture of the astrological forecast for the Aries-to-Cancer quarter for this year, described in a previous post. The demise of NATO

In an interview with The Economist a couple of years ago, Emmanuel Macron had the following to say about the NATO alliance: “What we are currently experiencing is the brain death of NATO,” His reference was in response to the actions of the Trump administration at the time in its relations with the EU. Trump, the epitome of the New York real estate mogul, had been poking at the Europeans to spend more money on US weaponry. Macron’s statement was the month before the pandemic began to grip the world’s attention and before the coming supply chain shocks and US actions overseas would enshrine his statement as being one of fact rather than conjecture. The question now remains, is NATO to be removed from life support and allowed to finally meet its end, or is it to remain as the shell of American influence over Europe for the foreseeable future? AUKUS takes on NATO

The AUKUS pact has faded from the news feed for now. But the effects of it will be felt across Europe for months to come. It is apparent at this point the Anglo nations, minus the Kiwis, are circling the wagons in preparation for a showdown with China – or so they seem to think. But what is that going to mean for Europe? Well, it seems the EU is not the superstate than many people thought it was, nor as important as the European Atlanticists thought they were to Uncle Sam. AUKUS has sent a shudder up the spine of the NATO alliance, and as a result, of the EU itself. COVID-19 and the EU

It is probably not hyperbole to state that Europe, or specifically the EU, is facing its worst crisis since WWII. That is, at least economically. A little virus has brought on a crisis that neither Brexit nor years of neoliberal austerity could produce. And so far, the COVID-19 crisis is showing up all that has been at the base of the problems with the EU. More to the point, it is showing the north-south divide between EU member states that has been there all along, but which is never really stated in polite company. Just as a divorce tends to bring out the worst in couples who promised “to love, honor and cherish ‘til death do us part” when they married, so this virus is bringing all the skeletons out of Europe’s closets.
