The 2025 Kamchatka-Krai earthquake and tsunami

Close to noon on the 30^th of July a severe earthquake measuring M_ww 8.8 occurred off the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka peninsula. It produced a tsunami wave 5m high at the nearby Kuril Islands, with much lesser tsunamis reported across the northern Pacific coastline. Only one casualty has been reported thus far – remarkable for such a strong quake. It was one of the 6^th-strongest quakes ever reported. 2023 Marrakesh-Safi earthquake

On the night of September 8^th a major earthquake struck Morocco south of Marrakesh in the High Atlas Mountains. To date almost 3,000 people have been killed by the falling rubble. Morocco is an ancient country with many buildings in its historic sections that are not reinforced against quakes. The same is true in the rural areas of the country.
