THE STARS IN THE TZU WEI SYSTEM AND THEIR EQUIVALENTS

On this page you will find a more or less complete list of the close to 108 ‘stars’ in the Zi Wei (Tzu Wei) system. The table of stars opens at the 'Download' button above. On the page, the far left column gives the transliterated names of the stars, first in Wade-Giles (because most of the books in English on the subject have them listed that way) and then in Pinyin, the transliteration system endorsed by China today. The second column is the common English name for each star. The third column gives either alternative names drawn from various sources and occasional comments. For the 36 most common stars the main source material is from Kwok Man Ho’s works on the subject. There is very little material out in English about the Auxiliary Stars, but their names have been included for completeness. They are not believed to be in common usage (in charts for the public).
