The 2025 Trump-Putin Summit in Alaska

This is old news now, but the repercussions from the summit between Trump and Putin continue to reverberate throughout the halls of power across the world. The summit took place on the 15^th of August this year and it has done much to clarify the positions of all the players in NATO’s war in Ukraine against Russia. For more, read on…

The summit was scheduled for 11:30 Anchorage, Alaska time on the 15^th. There are actually two relevant times for the summit – one at 11:27, when all the press were ushered out of the room, and another for 11:32, which was originally reported by CNN, and when the summit was finally underway. The event chart, using the 11:32 time is below (bigger):

The reason for citing two times for the summit is of interest, because for the US it gives the summit two very different meanings. The rising sign, especially the degree, is all-important for establishing the importance of events. So, we have the following Sabian symbols – those being distinctly American symbols – for the two rising times:

• • • 11:27: Having passed safely through narrow rapids, a canoe reaches calm waters. 10° Libra
    • 11:32: A professor peering over his glasses at students. 11° Libra

The symbol for the first time shows the hope for the summit – a peace deal and an end to the war. No analyst who knew both sides’ views on the war expected a peace deal. At best the expectation was that the two sides would begin talking. It that sense the summit went better than expected. That is shown in the chart, starting with the Libra Ascendant and the Venus/Jupiter conjunction straddling the Midheaven.

Venus/Jupiter combinations are very idealistic and hopeful ones. They also augur well for business. The business side of the talks was supported by the Moon in Taurus, sextile to the Venus/Jupiter/Midheaven combination. The Venus/Jupiter conjunction was trine the North Node. The implication here is that of re-establishing relations between the two nations, notably regarding business ties. Putin signed a decree on the morning of the summit authorizing American oil companies re-entering the Sakhalin Oil and Gas Project. Then we get to the more critical part of the summit.

The summit was about resetting relations between the US and Russia, shown by the square of Ceres to the Meridian axis – a ‘change of seasons’. This was reinforced by the trine of the Sun to Eris. It was not about ‘who was the fairest’ (from the mythology of Eris), but about how to resolve the crisis. The Sun was conjunct the 11^th house cusp (friends, hopes and wishes), showing the desired outcome. There was a Grand Trine of Mars, Pluto and Sedna, which was indicative of both sides seeking a more constructive discourse about the military situation (Mars and Pluto) because relations between the two nations had hit rock bottom (Sedna) since the start of the Russian SMO under the Biden administration. A creative restart was needed. This brings us to the 2^nd Sabian symbol, above.

Once the summit got underway in earnest, probably some minutes after the press left the room, there is little doubt that Putin schooled the American team about what was really at stake, the Russian intentions and the Russian needs as to the SMO. Putin would have been the ‘professor peering over his glasses’ at the Americans. Putin is known for his long discourses, historical knowledge and his knowledge of international law. He trained as a lawyer. He also has a PhD in economics.

The Russians knew full well Trump was not being given proper intelligence assessments. Trump never reads anything anyway and has no interest, really. He is far more interested in business, and the Nobel. He wanted a big win from the summit to bolster his flagging ratings. In terms of business, the Russians held out the carrot of business cooperation with the Sakhalin deal, knowing Trump’s penchant for oil and gas.

The American side seems to know or to care very little about Russia. This was clearly evident with the Biden administration – really, a long list of administrations – when they thought sanctions against Russia would cause it to collapse. They did this, probably without knowing that Putin has a PhD in economics. Russia has weatherd the sanctions very well, even having written off the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets. Russia is now the 4^th-largest economy in the world by PPP measure. And still American politicians blabber on about how small the Russian economy is.

The Russians, from their side, needed to hear what the Americans were thinking, too, as well as gauging the attitudes of the Americans. At the end of the summit it would appear that Trump actually heard Putin and the Russians for the first time. This brings us to a point of interest regarding the newly discovered dwarf planets.

The Ascendant of the chart was conjunct the dwarf planet Makemake (MAH-keh MAH-keh pronunciation). Makemake is a classical Kuiper belt object (KBO), meaning its orbit is independent of the gravitational perturbations we see with the plutinos. In other words, it is not locked into an orbital resonance with other planets. It is named after the creator god of the Rapa Nui people of Easter Island. The discovery charts for these new additions to astrology say a lot about how they operate, or what they mean to us, anyway.

Makemake’s discovery chart lives up to its name, as in creativity. It was at the 21^st degree of Virgo at its discovery, the Sabian symbol for that degree being: “A girls’ basketball team.” The symbol implies being able to integrate various factors and talents into an integrated whole. It also implies being able to extract meaning from a situation, as well as strategy. A team must be able to read the field at every moment and still maintain strategy in the process. This implies an element at least of heightened awareness, if not genius — being able to look at disparate factors that seem unconnected and forming a picture.

Makemake also contains an element of the capacity for repairing heartbreak and feelings of forlornness. As a creator god Makemake created the other gods in the Rapa Nui pantheon in order not to feel alone. Makemake thus carries or invokes the capacity to help balance and integrate dream states. It is worth noting that any planet on the Ascendant of a chart ‘speaks’ through the chart and definitely adds it note to the whole of the chart. It makes for a good test or proving of the meanings of the newly discovered planets to find charts where they are on the Ascendant and look at the expression of the person, group or event. How does this fit with the summit, though?

Makemake on the Libra Ascendant points to the healing of rifts and the balancing of forces. The planet has a natural resonance with Libra, given the preceding points. The Western media likes to paint Russia as being isolated, whereas it is actually the United States and the Europeans whi are progressively isolating themselves. The Sakhalin oil exploration deal will serve to bring the two sides ‘in out of the cold’. The fact that this was more a summit about listening to each side’s concerns and getting a clearer picture rather than seeking to strong-arm a deal out of the Russians points to what has just been described regarding the summit chart. From here we take a look at how the summit chart fits with the other main actors.

The summit chart for the United States is revealing. The US chart with transits and directions is below (bigger):

The ambition for the summit on the American side, represented by the natal Sun/Saturn square, showed transiting Jupiter conjunct the US Sun. Hopes were high for a ceasefire at least, if not a pathway for ending the war. They were to be disappointed. The natural idealism of the US – its evangelical zeal for impressing its ideals on every nation – shown by the natal Mars/Neptune square, showed the approaching solar arc of Saturn square to the natal Neptune, throwing cold water on the idea that Russia could be cajoled into some sort of deal. They got a deal, but it was about oil instead of a ceasefire.

The summit favoured the oligarchies in Russia and the US, shown by the solar arc of Pluto square to the US Jupiter, activated by transiting Mars on the day. The opposition parties to the Trump team were weak on the day, shown by the transiting Saturn/Neptune conjunction in its retrograde phase straddling the US 4^th house cusp. Against the backdrop of all these factors we see the ongoing solar arc combinations of natal Mercury, Ceres and Uranus with the directed US Midheaven, described in a previous post, and indicating a new outlook for the nation.

Not highlighted in the chart were transiting Uranus and Pluto, both trine the US Midheaven, showing the sudden, hurried nature of the summit as well as its success along certain lines as well as the upsets it caused with other parties, which we will cover next. And then we note the cross of matter for the summit is the same as that of the US. If an American astrologer picked the timing for the summit (entirely possible), they couldn’t have picked a better day or time, given the time constraints involved. Astrologers are often given difficult timelines by clients to find favourable outcomes. This one is a case in point. Trump was in a hurry. He needed a distraction from his domestic woes (tariff blowback, Epstein, etc.) and a big WIN. Then we turn to NATO.

If the US chart looks a bit suspect, the summit was a disaster for NATO. The summit chart for NATO with transits and directions is below (bigger):

Nicholas Campion provides the chart for NATO, which I have found to be accurate. Immediately evident is the dual Pluto action in the chart. Transiting Pluto is square the Horizon axis, with an approaching solar arc of Pluto to the Ascendant, which will become active in about six months. In addition, NATO’s Pluto is receiving a direction from the Sun – triple Pluto! But that is not all.

Transiting Pluto and the transiting Saturn/Neptune conjunction form the base of a yod, with NATO’s Sun as the apex planet – quadruple Pluto! Trump may as well have thrown a live hornet’s nest into the hurried meeting of the European powers that preceded the summit. Those were the main European NATO powers. Then finally we see the directed Midheaven in semisquare with NATO’s Saturn and square to NATO’s Jupiter – “the demonstration of inhibitions, a love of seclusion and loneliness. – Fluctuating success, changes, losses,” from Ebertin.

Just to be clear on what NATO is facing, and shown in this astrological picture, Ukraine is all but lost. We are in the final stages of that war, with the contact lines in Ukraine collapsing quickly, Ukraine’s inability to mobilize troops, Russia’s daily pounding of Ukrainian infrastructure and NATO’s inability to mount a viable troop contingent, its arsenal having been drained and its economies in a very unstable state, not to mention its de-industrialized state. We may well be looking at NATO’s collapse over the next couple of years. Then there is the EU.

On Monday following the summit the EU sealed its fate regarding ‘peace’ with Ukraine. The summit chart for the EU with transits only is below (bigger):

The solar arcs to the EU’s chart at the summit did not show anything outstanding, but if we look at the meeting of the Servile Seven at the White House that evening we note transiting Pluto was square the Meridian axis for the EU, almost exactly. The EU leadership sabotaged themselves that day and set the apparent course for the dissolution of the EU over the next years. They did so by promising to buy very expensive American weaponry to supply to Ukraine to keep it afloat, with money they do not have, and with a population that wants to see the war ended. The EU leaders who were present that day at the White House have other ideas. They want the war to continue, otherwise they lose their relevance.

The transiting Sun on the day of the meeting at the White House opposed the EU Saturn, bringing up all of the insecurities of the EU and challenging the autocratic nature of the EU itself, the latter shown by the natal t-square formed by the Moon opposite a Mars/Pluto opposition with Saturn as the apex planet. It shows a complete lack of regard for their citizenry as well as having a real talent for making poor decisions, decisions which ultimately blow back on the leadership.

All in all, the summit served to drive the Russian concerns home to the US and NATO. The realities on the ground in Ukraine can no longer be ignored. NATO and the neocons in the US are desperate now to be able to salvage something out of the catastrophe they have brought on themselves in Ukraine. The Russians on the other hand, having watched what has eventuated since the summit, will carry on the destruction of Ukraine’s military capabilities until the nationalists in Kiev are removed and Ukraine surrenders. A post-WWII, pre-SMO Finnish solution to Ukraine is on the cards – and it cannot come soon enough.
